The monument was erected in memory of four members of the Dutch Internal Armed Forces who died during WW2. It was unveiled on 14 April 1950 by the Queen's Commissioner in Friesland, Mr H.P. Linthorst Homan. The memorial was designed by Nico Onkenhout from Amsterdam, who was in hiding in Kollum during the war years.
